Vocabulary skill: Recognizing parts of the speech

Noun (sustantivo) es la parte de la oración que nombra a una persona, animal, lugar, objeto, etc. En el siguiente ejemplo sisters (hermanas) funciona como el sustantivo que ejecuta una acción:
  • My sisters work on weekends. (Mis hermanas trabajan los fines de semana)
Pronoun (pronombre) es la parte de la oración que sustituye a los nouns (sustantivos), mis hermanas puede ser sustituido con el pronombre they (ellos o ellas):
  • They work on weekends. (Ellas trabajan los fines de semana)
Adjective (adjetivo) proporciona información sobre el noun (sustantivo) o del pronoun (pronombre)
  • My sisters are tall. (Mis hermanas son altas)
  • They are tall. (Ellas son altas)
Los adjetivos (adjetives) modifican sustantivos, indican cómo es algo. Una casa puede ser nueva (new) o vieja (old), new y old son los adjetivos que nos indican cómo es la casa.
Articles (artículos) en inglés preceden al noun (sustantivo), se debe distinguir entre el artículo definido (The) y el artículo indefinido (a o an):

  • The book which she was reading is on the table.
  • My sisters work on weekends. (Mis hermanas trabajan los fines de semana)
  • The dog chases the cat all around the house. (El perro persigue al gato por toda la casa)
  • Mr. Green works with my uncle. (El Sr. Green trabaja con mi tío)
Verb (verbo) nos indica la acción que realiza el sujeto de la oración:

  • The dog chases the cat all around the house. (El perro persigue al gato por toda la casa)
  • Mr. Green works with my uncle. (El Sr. Green trabaja con mi tío)
  • They always play tennis on Sundays. (Ellos siempre juegan tenis los domingos)
Existen verbos auxiliares que permiten expresar en que tiempo verbal se realiza, realizó o realizará la acción:
  • Does he always walk to school? (¿Él siempre camina para ir a la escuela?)
  • Did she go there twice a week? (¿Ella fue allí dos veces a la semana?)
  • The bus will stop at the corner. (El autobús se detendrá en la esquina)
También, hay verbos modales:
  • She can try to finish her projects on time. (Ella puede tratar de terminar sus proyectos a tiempo)
  • You might prepare your work more carefully. (Tú podrías preparar tu trabajo más cuidadosamente)

Every day I learned something new about the planet, about the game and about the trip. This comes softly from reflections' chance. In this way I became aware on the third day of the baobab drama.

It was also thanks to the lamb and as concerned about a deep doubt, when the little prince asked me:

-Is it true that the lambs eat the bushes?
    -Yes it's correct.
    -Oh, what do I answer?

I did not understand why it was so important for him that the lambs ate the bushes. But the little prince added:

-Then they eat the Baobabs too.

I made the little prince understand that the baobabs are not shrubs, but trees as big as churches and that even if he took a whole herd of elephants with him, the flock would not end up with a single baobab.

This idea of the herd of elephants made the little prince laugh.

-The elephants should be put on top of each other ...
